This is a crack-scene that was once written for within Family Matters (after chapter 12 but before chapter 14). Since it wouldn't work at another time, and doesn't fit as a side-story, here it is...

In case you wonder how the last two + years of editing Family Matters felt (most of the time), here's an outtake from the editing process (written in a fit about a certain scene in the reworked chapter 20):

"What's that between you and Su-chan right now?" Seishiro asked, narrowed eyes following Takamura.
"That's not your concern," Subaru said.
"I beg to differ." Was there a growl in his voice? Surely not!
[...]
No!" Subaru snapped. "Forget it! If you actually have to compare sizes, I won't have a part of it!"
"And what sizes do you think we compare?" Seishiro asked, all fake innocence.
"I'd be interested in that one as well," Imonoyama joined them.
"Your egos, of course!" Subaru left them where they were, heading back to the house, a quiet room, a stiff drink, a double dose Valium-- No, he wouldn't go there, either.

Just one of these snippets that don't have a chance to fit anywhere...

He eyed the tub and shower room longingly, but there wasn't enough time left for a soak, so he cranked the water in the sink to hot, splashed two hands of water into his face, then reached for his tooth brush.

"Don't forget to wash behind the ears," a calm, amused voice said behind him. Close.

Seishiro turned abruptly. Yue, not solid enough to get wet by the spray of the shower head pushed to the upper end of the wall fitting. "What do you want?" he bit off.

"Checking your derriere?"

"Visiting Yomi soon?" Seishiro suggested sweetly.

A scene that didn't make it into Interregnum 6 - but I'm still tempted to re-add it even now...

Small outtake that sadly doesn't fit the mood between Subaru & Yue anymore:

"A final question: Why do you keep calling him 'Sei-chan'?"
"I'm fourteen-hundred years his senior. If that doesn't qualify for '-chan', I don't know what does." Yue smirked. "Besides, it's perfect to piss him off."

Someday, I will compile a "production outtakes"-file for 36° and Family Matters and collect all these snippets!

Until then, have fun with 36°'s "Dennis the Menace", in which Subaru reads Seishiro's analysis of the upcoming end of the world, the new millennium, and Baby Jesus. [Warning: strongly religious people may find some of Seishiro's thoughts (like most of X, likely) disturbing]

This is one of the scenes I was really sad about not finding a place in the fic for it. :)

Sometimes when writing a fic you have a scene for a late chapter, written almost at the beginning. You grew fond of that scene, played with it, endorse, giggled, whatever about it. And when you finally come to the chapter it is intended for, you realize that the minuscule changes from the original plan accumulated over the last 16+5 chapters and the mood no longer fits. Sometimes, you can salvage the scene, sometimes not. Sadly, "Hotaru's caterpillars" are a case of the latter. It was deleted this morning. At least the rest reads better now.
