current chapter word count: 12926 (up from 11113) on 21/28 A4 pages
scenes written: Case files in the morning, The Ambassadors, Representative removal, finding a secretary (all complete)
scenes to be written next: incoming SKZM case (not even scribbles on that one, just the reference materials marked), Omi reporting on problems with warding the wharf (almost complete scene, needs mostly mild adaptations), involving "the other office" (ditto), invading the wharf (ditto), catholic composite ghost (ditto).
character having more of a temper than expected from everybody: Subaru
character having plans for lunch: Seishiro
character being reminded of the capabilities of "the other office": Tomoaki
research needed this time: haraegushi, Okinawan pottery, Babylon (the 2019 anime series based on the novels バビロン by Mado Nozaki).
This chapter took a harsher turn than initially planned, so quite a few of the more comical scenes had to be rewritten, revamped, or ended up on my "for the outtakes" list. Esp. those involving elder Tomoaki's antics. Sadly. I also have yet to decide if Subaru's secretary starts working in this chapter or the next. It will mostly depend on where to cut the plot on demons nicely.
Quote(s) of the day (one for each completed scene):
“Would you mind fetching the car today?” Subaru asked, closing the lid of the second box. “These turned out quite heavy.”
Seishiro smirked. “What do I get for the effort?”
“Not having to haul one of these across the park to Ueno Station.”
A gift from Okinawa, Ameru’s elegant penmanship was easily recognizable to him by now, the lion to scare evil away, and the lioness to protect the good. [...] Prowling across his desk, they looked like miniature versions of the Pine’s Guardians—
Seishiro picked up the phone on the first ring. “Yes?”
“I believe the Pine sent ambassadors,” Subaru told him.
“It’s good to see you at least physically hale after your ordeal.”
“Ordeal?” Subaru asked, exasperated. “I was on Okinawa.”
“Very recommendable beaches.” Seishiro confirmed, adding casually, “also a lot fewer relatives barging in on us unannounced.” Tomoaki swung the haraegushi at him. Seishiro brushed the offending paper wand out of his face. “Aim that at me again and you will be an impurity in this office.”
“I don’t need a gifted onmyoji,” he told her bluntly, “I need somebody who’ll work next to a connected phone and dares answering it when it rings. Somebody to handle office communications with the Sakurazuka without exorcising every slip of paper in the building.” He drew a deep breath, calming himself. “Can you do that?”
