[community profile] snowflake_challenge #6: make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you...

Numbering for convenience only.
  1. Let's start with something smutty. I'd love to see the initial premise of the Chinese web novel Forced Estrus (so NOT SAFE FOR WORK) of a transformed alpha-general used in a culture-detailed, in-character(!) fic for Reinhard von Lohengramm (A) and Yang Wen-Li (O) of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. [fic wish]

  2. I wish there were a tagged, searchable fanart archive similar to the AO3 but for artwork, linked to the stories on AO3 (frontispieces, illustrations) if possible. [fandom infrastructure]

  3. I'd love to get an icon depicting the logo of Sakura Enterprises Inc. I actually started on doing that fanart, but it was one of the projects that got shelved for time constrictions and is unlikely to be revived in a timely manner. [TBX Decagram icon]

  4. Related to the previous wish: anybody's got an idea about how a logo for the Sumeragi that's not just a plain pentacle would look like? [TBX Decagram discussion]

  5. I wish somebody would write a fic that deviates from the Guardian canon right before all the time travel stuff and finish it in terms of a science fiction / space opera story rather than a barely concealed fantasy / horror plot of sacrifice. (Also, something in my mind still wonders which ship of the gargantuan fleets of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes crashed there after which battle to create the Guardian premise; was it of the Empire, of the Alliance, or were there ships of both? *g*) [fic wish - canon revamp]

  6. totally gathered from [personal profile] solo (because I just don't think in general terms that much!): more of my fandoms in comms on Dreamwidth instead of Twitter / Tumblr. TT are just not good interfaces for fandom discourse and ficworks.
akk: (LotGH - Confrontation)
Spent the last three hours finally watching the end of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes - The New Thesis" - only complaint: cliffhanger ending & the next season is not yet available *dah sigh*. OTOH, they really followed the books in this - with character designs, plotlines, and styles! So the cliffhanger is bearable. :-)

Of course, now I combine mentally Yoshiki Tanaka's LotGH with the Dixing crash, but *shrug* that's an image I can live with. *eg*

Finished watching Guardian tonight. It's a show I absolutely enjoyed, up to the point when they began with the time travel, at which point the show took a nose dive into an empty pool, sadly.

The characters introduced after that point (esp. the inventors in the past) were just cringeworthy, same for the "solution" of the final confrontation, which isn't sustainable - not in a social perspective (apartheit remains and is strengthened) and not in a physicist's perspective (that lantern's energy is limited, it ran out before, starting all the unresolved issues to arise - so all that sacrifice for another delay? Kinda like Brexit...Nope).

All that makes me wonder if they fired the writers at that point and replaced them with generic trope trainees (or tested a writing program on it, who knows?).

Final verdict:

likability: very high until timetravel; afterwards close to zero

rewatchability: ditto

writing probability: negligible

overall thought at the end: "Wie kann man eine tolle Serie in den letzten 10 % so verkacken?!" (German on purpose, don't ask).

Spent the evening researching local - instead of touristy - food sources within the imagined location of their hotel in Naha. Ended up with lots of screencaps from Google Maps, some house and dish fotos from Google Earth (with lots of names I can't read, so I'm glad not to use actual places), and a rather longish page in OneNote, holding all that and route options, walking distances, etc. pp.

Prospect for finally getting the infernal dinner scene done this weekend: reasonably high

Main thing that might get in the way: I'm at ep 24 of Guardian & have subs until ep 30...

After my reappearance on Dreamwidth (I've been gone for so long that I even forgot I've got a - now sadly silent - Reading Page for following feeds and friends!) I was introduced to the Chinese urban fantasy drama Guardian by [personal profile] rheasilvia and [personal profile] solo, the latter even went to the length of getting me decent subs because calling the German ones provided by Youtube "abysmal" would be flattering!

Yesterday, I managed to watch the first two eps. Enough to give a first verdict / classification:

Eps seen: 2/40

Likability: extremely high

binge-worthiness: very high
but depending on the availability of good subs, so absolute time consumption may be manageable for the time being

writing probability: low
so far; my writing is usually triggered by plot lines not by characters (think the unexplored connection between Cmdr. Walsh und Gooseman in Galaxy Rangers or the disappearance of the yin-yang principle from X/1999 that sparked the Decagram), and 2/40 eps is too soon for plot lines to be seen clearly and to be judged regarding "is there something I want to explore / expand / explain?". Plus, live action shows seldom trigger my writing, even in cases I love. I'm more prone to write to manga, anime, cartoons, and in rare occasions, books (thinking of you, Emperor's Edge!)

Thanks again to the ppl who introduced me to this show! :-)
