Regarding Ofuda on printed paper...

I recall from an earlier footnote that you explained a bit about the types of paper used and so forth. In your research, have you read anything about these types of paper being required, or are they just preferred?

Ultimately I would think that the spell written on the Ofuda is the most important, and also the act of creating it (ie your mental state when you sit down to the calligraphy). Also, I would imagine that there might be very special paper, ink, and brushes used for strictly ceremonial purposes.

No, I found nothing about special paper being required or not. However, I have the Sumeragi being a very formal clan, concerned a lot with style and decorum; so it makes sense that for them it's close to blasphemy to use anything but pure, handmake, sun-bleached (because of Amaterasu) paper for their spiritual workings. Somebody from their clan, scribbling an ofuda on a girly letter paper certainly is... ;)

For contrast: Seishiro uses almost anything he can gets his hands on when he needs an ofuda, including a grocery receipt (which is why he and Subaru still argue - off-stage - about the price for that cucumber).
