I finally got my little black (no, not from Dior; it's a Samsung Q45) laptop three days ago, but I was too busy with work, story posting, review answering, and overall daily life (eek) to give it it's deserved new hardware squee
It's small, black, shiny, powerful and lightweight with an acceptable battery life of 5+ hours!
Now I'll beat the OS into submission and start feeling mobile!
on a totally unrelated sidenote: the new version of Semagic (1.7.0.9) now also supports automatic tags on IJ. :)

Size: 12.1" screen. The screen is A4 paper size and very clear in color and dotting. I run it at max resolution (1024x800) without all the dithering fancies windows offers for laptop screens (which gobble up processor power!) and it's not tiring at all (and I wear glasses).
I have no experience with Macs, except that you run into trouble when connecting them with contemporary data projectors and/or university domains. Whenever we've networking issues at work, a Mac's involved. The compatibility is just not as good as you'd like them to have.
I've been running a Windows laptop for the past 4 years, protected by Kaspersky Antivirus (and now their all.in.one system: Kaspersky Internet Security) and never had any issues.
My experiences with Sony's are mixed: some of the Vaios I've come across worked like a song, but there were also some that were just a nightmare and died an early and ugly death (usually 1 month after warranty end). And Sony's are comparatively expensive, like IBM's. My personal opinion: you pay an extra-fee for their name.
So far, I didn't run into problems with Samsungs, which is why I stayed with them. They also provide some sensible software tools and settings for battery time and keeping the drivers uptodate.
Not sure if all this helps you at all, but if you like to discuss options or ideas, feel free to comment or mail me. :)
