...and I think Subaru's father would have to _sire_ Kamui, not give birth to him. I know that Clamp doesn't take gender specifics too seriously, but so far they abstained from gender changes à la You Higuri. ;)

If he had to make up an excuse that would allow him to skip his duty for so long he'll better make up one BIG... ^_-

Mn... they had waited up until she finished high school... if I calculated things right it might be around the time Subaru left for Tokyo/met Seishiro... I do wonder if CLAMP did it on purpose... there are some interesting matching dates.
Sei-chan met his mother at 9.
Subaru met Sei-chan at 9.
Sei-chan began working as Sakurazukamori at 15.
Subaru likely come in Tokyo to work as Onmyouji at 15...
Sei-chan got the Subaru's mentor role at 25...
Subaru got the Kamui's mentor role at 25...
I do wonder if Subaru's supposed to die at 34 too...

The meet at 9, work at fifteen, mentor at 25, die at 34 routine is... yuck. ;)

Kamui have a: part at 9 with the ones he loves, saw everyone he loves die and get his life ruined at 15 type of life... so if something is going to happen at 25 and 34 I guess it'll be different from what had happened to Sei&Su... Anyway CLAMP at that time should have had an obsession for the 9, 15, 25 and maybe 34 ages...

Or maybe it's just that they juggle that much mystical baggage around that they try to avoid complicating the number mystics by staying with the 9,15,25,34... scheme. :)

Well... I've been told 9 is a special number but as for the others I've no idea... Maybe they just chose 3/4 casual numbers and repeated them of purpose to underline the affinity between those 3 chara?
Or maybe they have some meaning in Japan...
Anciently 15 was the Genpuku age...

Ops... sorry. Genpuku was the historical Japanese coming-of-age ceremony and in 'Ruroni Kenshin''s time... which should be Meiji era... was placed at 15... at least in the Italian translation. According to wikipedia instead it ranged from 12 to 16...

I'm not a fan of Kenshin, sorry. The art just put me off it.
There are various coming of age rites throughout Japanese history - as in most traditional societies. I just wasn't familiar with the term. Maybe use translations if possible?
