I've been meaning to ask - if it's not too much of a bother - why do you remove the 'o's from ofuda? What's the difference between fuda and ofuda?

I've been told (emphatically so by solo) that the "o" is an expression of respect, probably reverence. While that entirely fits Subaru's mindset (he keeps saying/thinking "ofuda"), it's not quite right for Seishiro's attitude (hence he's referring to "fuda").
Since I'm going through this text with a lice comb anyway, it's not too much of a bother to finetune that as well. :-)

Oh, that's interesting, thank you for replying. And kudos for lice combing, it sounds like as much work as writing the epic in the first place.

I don't know Japanese, so, basing on the (unreliable) info scattered all over the internets, I thought the o- came from omamori, as in omamori-fuda.

Anyway, now I have funny mental images: Subaru reverently holding his ofudas like precious treasures and Seishiro being all "bah, it's just paper" (and doodling penguins on them? for extra magical power, no doubt;) or to annoy Subaru)

Well, I think the reverence is more in the work put into them. Think about it, I have Subaru use special paper, carefully mixed ink, and lots of time for preps, while Seishiro uses a permanent marker (or whatever else is at hand when he needs one) and whatever surface / slip of paper / *stuff* is available. Reminds me, I absolutely have to write that short story about the "converted sock". [Seishiro, the MacGyver of fuda] ;)

:-) Their different working styles are going to be a major "chafing point" in Business As Usual, once the initial "Golden Week chapter" is over, which is why I don't think I'll put the sock event into a side story. It will most likely appear in the main plot (and it's a white tabi sock from Subaru. Seishiro's suit socks are black, difficult to write on that).

But there's a snippet about them arguing about the money spent on groceries, which keeps ongoing because "a certain someone abused the shopping receipt without noting down the sum". Maybe... but no promises. Editing is first now. :)
