If you've been stalking this blog for a while, you probably know that a few months ago I delved briefly into Facebook and it drove me nuts with fretting over who-sees-what, privacy issues etc.. I jumped through various loops to delete the whole thing (successfully) and good riddance.
However, there were a few things that I actually liked when using the service and I realized that I made a mistake. I was using Facebook as Facebook (and its boss) wants us to use it, not like I want to use it. Therefore I'm back on a fresh book and -- any He-Man references are fully intentional *eg* --

Disclaimer (English):
I treat facebook like the online version of the "miscellaneous" pin board next to the coffee machine - a place to put the online equivalent of coffee break chat and the occasional weirdness.
What to expect on Facebook:
Links to websites and news articles and the occasional spontaneous "comment of the day" - as I said above: "the online version of coffee break chat" - in both English and German. If something is not in the language you speak, Google Translations does a decent job on most texts. [http : // translate . google . com /]
What not to expect on Facebook:
Matters about my professional qualifications and career. Those are set up under my full ID on a dedicated service.
Matters about my private life - as it is - "private".
Matters about my hobbies. Those are in my blog on a dedicated Social Media site, allowing for proper treatment and space.
Photos of me or by me. There are author pictures of me in some my presentations and publications. Photos I took myself (a) don't contain me and (b) won't be posted to a service that allows itself widespread public reuse of them.

I've read it, but somehow I just don't find the time to sit down and write my thoughts about it in a coordinated manner. Briefest summary would be: It makes a lot of sense to me (and not only because I actually understood what the author was writing about). I'll be interested in the kind of reception it got.
