A few days ago, a friend of mine mentioned that for her, DW is very quiet (almost "deadish") and all her blog-action happens back on LJ. Since I didn't feel that way, it made me reflect on it and I noticed that I've begun to mentally separate my DW experience from what I expect on LJ.
allow me to elaborate:
when I moved to DW it was mostly because I was deeply unhappy with the conduct of LJ back then and the disruptive nature of having first blogged on LJ and then on IJ (and let's face it: DW is extremely author-friendly in its features!), but mentally, I treated it - posting and esp. reading list and community life - very much like I had LJ from the very beginning.
However, my friend's comment above made me realize that's changed.
My comms on LJ are fandom (and often character-specific) and though I don't participate in many and/or very active fandoms, there are a lot of posts on my LJ list every day (30-50 in 24 hours in the average), of which a lot is what I call "background noise". Something I glance over, but don't spend time on. Basically, I have to search for the raisins in the cake.
In contrast, my DW list is a lot less active. I probably get around 10 posts a day, but of those the number of "want to spend my precious coffee break on reading them" is a lot higher. In addition, the comms I enjoy following here have broader topics (anime/manga, fantasy, scifi, books...). I expected that to cause more "noise", but the opposite was the case. The latter might be, because DW is still very young compared to the established infrastructure on LJ, or because of the group of people who decided to move and stay. I have no means to validate these assumptions (and certainly no time). But it is an interesting observation.
In short: I feel as if DW is becoming something decidedly different than LJ. It no longer feels like leading a double-life when blogging on both sites. I'm certainly curious to see where it all goes.
