current chapter word count: 5406
scenes worked on: Mariko, Seishiro & Makoto
scenes complete? plotwise, yes, but Seishiro & Makoto probably needs a bit of descriptive flesh
character learning about a skeleton in the cupboard: Seishiro
character learning about alternative thoughts on blood: Makoto
character admitting barely the risks he'd taken: Ameru
quote of the day: "You do the spell, have the effect, and get billed by sakanagi."
unrelated F-Y-I: don't expect this chapter any time before Christmas. I'm buried in work and my trusty beta is going on other-side-of-the-planet vacation with the significant other. I wish them a very good trip & even though they're going to be communicative (they say that now) I'm confident there won't be any time to beta (if there turns out to be, they're going to get an earful from me when they get back, because they managed to do their vacation wrong! ;) ).
unrelated side-note / legal question: are there any copyright issues (other than those already attached to fanfic) with making an ebook out of one's fic, as long as that ebook is not DRMed and given for free? Are ebooks for dedicated reading equipment considered the same as web-documents or are they considered like printed books, thus upping the stake towards the original publishers of the fandom source?
If there are any i-net, fan legal experts out there on my friends' lists, I'd be happy to hear your opinion about this. :)

I wouldn't think there are any issues if the fic is available in ebook instead of HTML or TXT or whatever; it's just another electronic format. As long as you a) don't charge for it, b) don't distribute commercially, c) don't claim copyright in the characters created by someone else, it's not really much of a step removed from how fanfics are already published electronically and online.

It was my first assumption as well, but I given that ebooks are more and more treated like books (at least in Germany, where the ebook price is at least 80% of the (fixed) printed price - ridiculous!), I wondered if there was something in the international thought-pool about it.

Ebook is a book in electronic format.

Date: 2009-11-26 05:52 (UTC)From:I wasn't sure about what constitutes an ebook in detail, since the word is also used as a summary for the various file formats in which electronic books come these days. There are quite a few sources dealing with websites and web content, but about ebooks all you get are the growling warns of the publishers NOT to... (do to them what happened to the music industry in their eyes).
