Aaah, I was curious about the tinted glasses. Though I should say that astigmatism rarely can be corrected with Lasik.

Hmmm, I remember reading an interview in which CLAMP said Seishiro always had mild astigmatism--enough that he didn't need glasses all the time. Have you read this interview? Maybe my memory is a bit faulty. It's really cool knowing you put so much thought into this too, that you even thought of the eye growing in a different shape, creating your own explanations for Seishiro's sexy glasses. ;)

I'm looking fowards to this side-story. I imagine blurry eyesight would be a big problem for someone who needs to pay attention to detail. I'm curious to see how you've solved that.

I don't consider interviews - or other things not listed at the beginning of the story - as canon material for my plot. However, mild astigmatism is what I said he had from the beginning (even pre-TB) (read above, maybe my sentence isn't as clear as I thought it was. ^^;)
But the loss of an eye - and later transplantation (entirely fictitious, medicine isn't that far yet - hence... CLAMP campus facility involvement *g*) increased the problem, taking care that he now needs his glasses for real (to see precisely and not to be blinded by bright lights), in case he doesn't use the trick he came up with when he found himself suddenly blind on one side.
Astigmatism is difficult, but for a hunter like him, the lack of depth perception - if he hadn't found a way around it - would have been deadly.

Mariko side story has much more than that. It's just the place where this detail is explained. :) Right now, I'm totally engrossed in chapter 19-

Yes, I understood that your Seishiro had astigmatism, I was just commenting on how CLAMP possibly has similar views.

And I completely understand you dedication to chapter 19--sorry if it sounded like I was urging you, somehow. It really wasn't my intention, I dislike readers who do that. I was just commenting on how I'd like to read it in future when you do write it.

I'm sorry, I failed to grasped that. And no, I didn't feel urged on by you. I just meant to tell you that though Mariko is the side story developed the most, it's still not going to be released that early. I planned to do that, but then chapter 19 took the reins from me and ran with it. ;)

I think it's less cultural background than different language application. Of course, one can consider different language application as being caused by different cultural background...

...I probably overanalyse this right now. Esp. since I don't even know your cultural background to begin with.

Oh yes, I definitely think language application varies with culture. I used to work as a translator and it makes a big difference. I'm Brazilian and we have a tendency to imply many things through our speech, which means that we have difficulty communicating with the Portuguese, who use language in a more literal way. It has to do with the way one thinks and views the world.

Oh my, we're a tough combination, then. Germans tend to be rather frank in their interpretation. It probably comes a bit from our language being practically "designed" to be very specific in categorizing. :)

I think with me it shows mostly when I'm dead-set on finding the adjective exactly describing all nuances I want to express in the sentence, resulting in me searching for half a week (and most often getting it tossed at my head by solo because it's only found on logorrhea. ;)

It's the tough aspect of speaking more than one language, I suppose. No single language can express all nuances you are familiar with in these other languages, and it can be quite frustrating, especially when it comes to descriptive verbs and adjectives.

Ah yes, and Portuguese is fluid to the point we have words that can mean something amazingly good or tragically horrible--it all depends on context. I admit it can lead to headaches. XD
