On cleaning:

Dear self,
next time you plan the thorough cleaning of your whole flat (installing of new hardware), please remember the following:
a) the place gains space exponentially, the moment you start removing dust!
b) the volume of clutter goes with the power of ten when it is taken out of a box, a cabinet, a shelf, a whatever!
c) yes, that *was* a red carpet underneath
d) it looks good only until you put the stuff for your daily needs back in
e) ...xhausted.

On drool-tech (as in "to drool over" and "technology")

I got myself a new laptop stand, because my 15,4" wide screen was too rickety on the old one. The new one is made for laptops of that size (or even bigger ones), has four USB 2.0 ports built in and looks stylish (drool-tech component 1, actually). It also is about 8 cm higher than the old one, working better for my height. Unfortunately, that required getting myself a keyboard. Typing on the laptop worked on the old stand, but not on the new one. Too high for that. I spent virtually four hours in three stores, test-typing keyboards ranging from 15 € to 150 € (yes, 150 € for a keyboard!) without finding one (though I still wish I had the aluminum wrist rest from Logitech's flagship. So nice, shiny, and cool to the touch.). I am used to the silent, soft, yet well-defined Samsung laptop keyboards for over five years now. Let's just say, having a normal keyboard again was... undesirable. At best.
In the end, I went home, frustrated, and ordered the slimmest keyboard without complaints about noise and lack of durability from Amazon.de (Logitech's illuminated keyboard). It was delivered this morning, because of the cleaning I couldn't test it until now.
*And it is GREAT!* (Definite drool-tech!)
It is even more quiet than my laptop's keyboard, with some very usable changes to the standard key layout (double-sized DEL key with the INSERT being small and remote from it; perfect. I no longer hit INSERT instead of DEL, which used to happen frequently) and it's not cluttered with special function keys. The only thing it lacks for perfect computing experience is a touchpad (used to exclusively laptop boards, I keep hitting the wrist rest whenever in need to move the cursor. Remember: you own a graphics tablet. Use it. Dammit!). And it even came at price tag of less than a half of the expensive one!

I'm so looking forward to type in all the scribbles for chapter 17 that accumulated over the last few days. Granny Talk 2 got a makeover, and the intro to Daylight Sex is finally written. Though there's still a gap to be closed in that scene... :)

Samsung offers special pricing for academia in my country, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford it, either. *Sigh*. It takes five years to fill the bank account, takes five minutes to empty it. But then, I live cheap, except when it comes to drool-tech. ;)

Well, the title might be misleading, given that it was named while I rejuggled the daily events, moving said scene from after sunset back towards early afternoon. ;)

Actually, I don't give a damn about mobile phones. They are a necessary evil in job, that's all.
And yes, saving long for something makes it more precious to you (at least, more irreplaceable).
