akk: (SeiSub - Kiss After)
current chapter word count: 7510
number of scenes remaining for fine tuning: 2
number of scenes fine tuned this weekend: all minus 2 (including adding more flesh to three of them)
status of the chapter: almost done. [insanejournal.com profile] solo where are you???
character who is now a tad more introspective despite Kali-addiction: Subaru
character who is sane afterwards anyway: also Subaru
character who kind of enjoys that: Tree-san
characters who will not enjoy that next chapter: grannyS and the elders
research of the day: Japanese police cars
quote of the day: He didn't feel up to face the truths buried under the Tree's bloodied roots.

request: There is precious little in depth information to be found about the Battle of Ueno (mostly English and German Wikipedia and a few bits on tourist sites and about the Shogitai). For one of the next chapters I'd love to have the name (rank, age, social status, etc.) of the highest ranking officer, who died in the BoU. I'd prefer not to make up that kind of information. :)

I'm here - had the train ride from hell yesterday (all-day meeting in Newcastle with optional flooding of railway lines) and have been sleeping/laying low today. Will be around tomorrow!

"There is precious little in depth information to be found about the Battle of Ueno..."

This is tough unless you are happy with Harada Sanosuke and you probably are not :)

This may be your answer:
· Steele, M. William. Against the Restoration. Katsu Kaishu's Attempt to Reinstate the Tokugawa Family. Monumenta Nipponica, Vol. 36, No. 3. (Autumn, 1981), pp. 299-316.
· Steele, M. William. Edo in 1868: The View from Below. Monumenta Nipponica, Vol. 45, No. 2. (Summer, 1990), pp. 127-155.
Today I am meeting my “Japanese” friend, so I will ask him for an access :) but I would say it is 20% chance it contains the facts you need.

Thank you :)

And you're right, Harada is otherwise occupied.

Nothing :(

I really hate when I run a search and come up with nothing :(

Still if you wish I can upload the article somewhere – it is quite nice and informative.

The other thing we found is a man called Kakuoin who supposedly was a leader of Shogitai... (p.59)

The rest is silence... :(

Thank you. :)
I only had time to skim the pdf briefly, but it seems to be a lot more informative than my previous sources.
If it's not too much of a hassle, I'd love to get your additional article as well.
I use the Battle of Ueno as the backdrop for a very critical event in the history of the Sakurazukamori and their henchmen and I try not to make too obvious mistakes. :)

I know I had much fun using my resources for such a noble case :D

BTW: You should have gotten the link to the article in a private message
