current chapter word count: 7081 + 324
scene accidentally written: Tachibana (or: follow the blossoms)
why accidentally? because it killed two hours of tonight's sleep and the current scene I have to finish is still "nightly visit", but somehow the Tachibana squeezed themselves in.
scene complete? mostly (depends on the adaptations necessary once I get to it in the flow of this chapter)
scene is important, because? it introduces the symbolism of the tachibana (blossoms, mostly) into the fic, which will (a) become important later, and (b) drives home that despite the Sumeragi not offing offenders doesn't mean they don't have options to deal with them.
character learning that putting a tracer on the Sumeragi head is a stupid idea: Seishiro's accountant (Motohiro)
character having more fun than he expected on his first day at the office: Subaru (and Seishiro, though he won't admit it)
Excerpt of the day (shortened):
"Don't. We have to check--"
But Subaru, sitting on the new grey carpet of his office, had already opened his suitcase, checking its contents. Counting shirts, pants, toiletries… and frowning at a small parcel wrapped in colorful paper bound with red silk tassels. He set it aside and looked up. "Yes?"
Seishiro sighed. "Now we have to clean you of tracers."
Subaru snorted. "Unnecessary. That's for the one who dared placing them."
"How would you know who that was without tracing them back?"
Laughter erupted outside. Subaru smiled serenely and pushed himself off the floor. "Come. Time to look for the tachibana."
[...]
"We train gifted children from a very young age. Of course we have a way to find out who causes mischief with spells."

Date: 2020-05-30 12:55 (UTC)From:Tachibana: Tachibana are inedible Japanese oranges grown very much like sakura for the beauty of their blossoms and their scent, rather than their fruits.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachibana_orange
While less known in the West than Sakura, they have as much symbolism and myth attached to them. They are often planted together with a sakura tree, so that - from teh perspective of the viewer (for example the emperor at the palace garden) - the sakura stands on the left, and the tachibana orange tree on the right; similar to guardians.
