akk: Galaxy Rangers badge (GR - Badge)
A fan passing by my Galaxy Rangers website and taking it upon himself to sit down and write an email about the stories reminded me that there still are some major novel-sized fics of mine waiting to be polished.
I've spent the last year writing and editing proposals for scientific funding in English. I hope I'll be tough enough now to face what I wrote fifteen years ago and get Crystal Structures & A Different Kind of Betrayal fit for reading. I'd hate to leave my Galaxy Rangers story arch incomplete just because fandom wandered on and I'm too scatter-brained to face my own writing!

Therefore I take a short break from TBX and clean things up in my old fandom (effectively started last Saturday). Don't worry, it's a lot less tricky to edit than Family Matters, mostly because the plot lines are more straightforward and you have more descriptive leeway in ScienceFiction (as in, things mustn't fit real life Tokyo thirteen years ago). If you are curious about these other stories, feel free to visit my AO3 account. :-)

The editing of Crystal Structures is coming along. The "story" consists of six parts, each of approx. 30 pages (A4, 11pt Calibri text) and I'm already on page 16 of 28 in part 1 (including correct formatting, Caro's beautiful frontispiece, and the puzzling Ashcroft/Mermin science book quote, which got a page of its own because it's that awfully important)!

Of course, part 1 was actually handled by skilled editor(s) before, so the amount of issues was greatly reduced compared to the rest, but my style changed quite a bit since I wrote Crystal Structures and I decided not to bother with mimicking my sparkly naive self from back then. Given the topic, the harsher style fits well to the story.

As for those waiting for it:
I'm going to post Crystal Structures as a pdf with frontispiece and everything for printing on my homepage (and send a link to Ranger-L). I'm formatting for A4 paper, but with page adaptation it can also be printed on US paper.
In addition, I will upload it to the Archive Of Our Own once I finished uploading all the old stories. The AO3 allows to read it on the web and to download it as html, pdf, or epub ebook for those who prefer not to deal with frontispieces and author fancy.

However, I will not prepare listmails actually holding the text and I won't post anything until all parts are done. I actually like chapter by chapter releases, but I have no way of knowing how long editing the other parts may take me and I don't want people breathing down my neck about how things continue. After all, I'm known to leave things hanging for 10 years, so better not tempting the slaverlords in that regard. ;)

...hm, I really need a few Galaxy Rangers icons here!

Hurray! I really enjoy your Galaxy Rangers stories. Hmmm... maybe I'll get GR from Netflix in preparation. :-)

Good to hear about it! I think I am as happy that you are continuing it, nvm when (though the sooner the better, but no pressure). Just exceedingly glad :D
