Steve Jobs says the iPad offers the world freedom from porn.

It is a taletelling sign, when an influential company (boss) like iApple talks about "freedom from" instead of "freedom to". I prefer having the "freedom to" decide pro or against something, rather than having the decision taken away by "freedom from".
Matter of fact: in Apple's case that will be me. If I'm ever tempted by an Apple product again, I most certainly put iSteve's quote on my desktop as a reminder not to go there!

For me it depends on what Jobs means by porn. I harbor a deep-seated disgust for the porn industry, which I feel is the lucrative marriage between capitalism and sex attitudes that perpetuate misogyny, racism, and more, and I would kinda like it if one of the media-consumption products out there were to say hey, we will not be a part of that. But I'm fully aware that that's my inner feminist dictator talking, who I'm fully aware is kind of crazy and should never be put in a position of power. I'm really very anti-censorship, so in the end I'm probably with you on this one. I'm confusing myself just thinking about all of this, though.

Well, I react strongly to "freedom from" whatever it is, because it means nothing else that somebody else deems hirself better suited to decide what's appropriate for me than me.
In this specific instance, that would be Steve Jobs, whose company kicked the app of "Stern" (a mainstream news magazine, comparable to the NewYorker) from their store, because an issue of it contained nudity (a series of very tasteful art photographs!), so they have a history of *not* deciding in my favor. Therefore:

re: Stern- Omg.. I could almost laugh, that's just so.. silly. I'm not much of an Apple user anyways.. I use their ipod and that's it. As far as computers go I stick with what I'm familiar with, which is windows.

when I needed a new mp3 player, I took a Walkman from Sony, that came over 100 € cheaper than an ipod and I don't have to climb through the itunes software to get my music collection from my pc to the walky. :-)
