Can I say in my defence at the time I read that chap I wasn't paying attention to that world of TRC? ^_-
(Got interested with that part of Japanese mythology after reading TRC... *shame on me* before I knew it but I wasn't really intrigued... therefore I couldn't remember the names of the Gods to save my life...)

Personally, I pretty much hate TRC. The drawing style is a nightmare for me.

I don't know if you're following TRC last development (if you are or don't want spoilers feel free to skip this) but TRCSeishiro's last apparition was in Nihon-koku (Japan Country) an ancient version of Japan, under a magic Sakura tree that Tsukiyomi used to keep Sakura (the TRC version of Card Captor Sakura, not another tree) alive.
Only in the TRC version Tsukiyomi is Tomoyo's title and she's basically what Hinoto is in X...

I don't mind spoilers for TRC or xxxHolic. I don't read those series and it's very likely I never will. I seldom or never get past artwork I dislike, no matter how good or interesting the story it tells. Hence, I don't care about what happens in those series.
"My" Tsukiyomi is taken directly from Japanese lore (as directly as possible for somebody not able to read the original Japanese texts that is); as is my take on the Sun Goddess. Given the lore about Amaterasu and her younger brother (left eye, right eye, sun, moon, he killed, she can't look at him for it) it was just perfect for the plot and the Sumeragi / Sakurazuka dynamics. However, I'm glad the TRC stuff doesn't make sense in this context. :)

Even if I generally tend to chose works whose artworks I like (I read everything I can find of Haruhiko Mikimoto merely due to the pretty artwork... shame on me...) I also read some work merely due to the plot... and some other merely due to the fact I loved the anime series :P
As a small consolation I can say TRC artwork got a bit better as the story progressed (Seishiro in Nihon (Vol. 22) is much, much cooler than in Outo (Vol. 7))...
Yep, when I got info about the Japanese myth I was impressed by it and wondered why CLAMP didn't use it despite their 'eye fetish'...
