[insanejournal.com profile] wildilocks created a Wikipedia page comparing the various Livejournal code sites out there.

It's interesting to me that after LJ itself, IJ has the highest updated-in-the-last-24-hours rate despite being only on rank 6 in the total user count [site watched 26.3.2008; data from 23.3.2008]. :)

Ahh I was wondering about that. When I was customizing my IJ I noticed that, not only is the whole process very similar to LJ, but the Insane operators even forgot to switch out "LiveJournal" for "InsaneJournal" in some areas.

What I'm not clear on however, is how these Live clones got the code. Did they make it available freely, or was it stolen (I've seen this before on the internet)?

The Livejournal code is available under the public license. One of the last actions of Brad Fitzpatrick. Everybody can grab it, read it, change it, adapt it, play with it - it's legal. :D
