Oooh, are you going to show the investigation into Hokuto's disappearance? That ought to be interesting. The only other fic I've read that mentions that a bit was In My Line Of Work by Leareth. I'll be quite interested to see how you approach it.
It's more like Hokuto's mysterious unsolved death creeps up during a contemporary investigation, raising suspicions, but yes, at least the police part is addressed a little. I ♥ the two In My Line Of Work stories, but they deal more with Subaru's past & past relationship than with Hokuto's death. I hope to take a different approach - more Homicide Division than Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. :)
