This morning (8:45 local time) I was suddenly logged out of facebook. Since then every log-in attempt to facebook gets redirected to a security site, demanding me to add a mobile number to my account (I wouldn't mind that, but...) when I add my number the next pop-up demands to enter the code sent by SMS. An SMS that didn't arrive. They give a link for informing them about the problem, but that requires to log in to facebook, which gets redirected to...
...anybody else in the loop? This is really stupid. If they don't want link-sharing customers, they sure as hell should say so!

Date: 2010-08-20 15:02 (UTC)From:I attempted to reset my passwort. I attempted to report the problem. I tried to file a complaint (for all of that they demand you to be logged in to your account; which is exactly what they don't let me do).
I 'd like to TELL them that their service is f*cked up for me, but for that I have to be logged in as well. :(

Date: 2010-08-20 15:53 (UTC)From:It seems FB is hellbend on having me register a mobile number with my account and in the same process made it impossible for me (a) to do so, (b) to tell them it didn't work, and (c) logging into my account in whatever way.
It's not as if I'm missing them greatly - I lived without their service happily for years - but this piss-poor customer service sucks!

yes actually i think they suck so much on other matter too, but it just too many friends already there so i kind of dont have better option to get in touch with them..

Date: 2010-08-21 19:52 (UTC)From:Which is actually one of the reasons I try to have this resolved. The loss of FB doesn't bother me all that much (aside from an "on principle"-stand regarding customer service), but for people actually relying on them (which, I am sorry to say, is a wide-spread but dangerous attitude, since it gives your communication channel into the hands of a single, data-hungry company!) something like this would be a nightmare.
Right now, I'm mostly curious on a scientific basis whether or not they (a) bother and (b) manage to actually resolve the loop. If not: *SHRUG* it certainly won't be a feather in their techies' cap.

Date: 2010-08-22 04:17 (UTC)From: (Anonymous)Isn't that what privacy policy for? but then again many did not read it at all (me included actually XD I was also friendster user)
What do they use of those personal information, aside for getting third party ad? ...could it be discovering russian spy ? XD
That's interesting XDD I'lll wait for your news. But if not will you get another account?

Date: 2010-08-22 06:08 (UTC)From:It's how they reserve themselves the right to all the material you put up there - including photos - for further use without your explicit consent. They say it's just for being able to distribute it to different systems, but the text covers also using it totally different.
In addition, the policy reserves itself the right to be changed without notice. They may notice, but they mustn't. It's legalese, right, but legalese that can (and often is) used against the customers for profits.
And yes, I did read it. The German *and* the English version. Also the old one last year, and the one they put in use since then, because the German privacy advocates caused an uproar regarding the automatic publicity of profiles.
Likely not. Firstly, I mostly used the service as a billboard for links and, secondly, I have the hunch that a second account would sooner or later get the same issue. Why bother?

awww I dont think the second one may have same loop problem.. i mean, there are so many people not familiar with technologies or internet using it service.. [and i remember very well i never got any sms from to confirm my phone, but then again i dont live in german so...... lol]

Date: 2010-08-22 12:41 (UTC)From:Regarding the loop, it might well happen again. It seems to be a weird mix of the English and the German site routines, given that some of the text is in English and some in German. Normally, their localization is proper. And English text on the German site shouldn't happen - for exactly the same reason you've named: most people aren't familiar with the technology (or a foreign language).
This phone confirm thingy caused trouble before, but back then, it just kept me from getting rid of those annoying captchas throughout the site. Something I could live with, given that I just post links with acid comments.
So no, they may fix this - and if they seriously want to work on it, I'm willing to help as best I can - but if they decide to ignore it, good riddance. Their service isn't that worthwhile to me.
