akk: (Seishiro - Yes!)
current chapter word count: 9434
scene worked on: Omi's House Visit of Hell
completed? no. Now I have two bloated scenes, which need to be streamlined while there's still necessary content in them missing!
character decidedly nervous: Omi Tono
character who risks his life: Yoshi
because of... salmon fillet
research of the day: street view of Ueno-Sakuragi & the Yanaka cemetery, traveling times from Okutama - Tachibana - Tokyo Station - Uguisudani
quote of the day: He was going to one of the most polluted places on Earth: the Sakurazukamori's house. Subaru-san's house.

Google Earth made street photos around the area where I placed Seishiro's house for the story. While I didn't have the layout of the streets and houses as it is in reality, I'm surprised how many of the elements I made up actually exist (even if in slightly different locations). The high wall on one side of the street with small flats on the other; trees lining the streets once you get further away from the Kototoi towards the Yanaka cemetery... it's fascinating how close I got to reality, despite making most of it up based on the size of buildings and street widths in an old city map!
Have a look at it in Google Earth. The picture at 35° 43' 23.72" N 139° 46' 24.03" E is closest to where I made up his house to be! [Here's a link to the Google map streets view for it.]

I'm thinking about whether or not I continue the Decagram past FM. While I have quite some plot I'd like to tell, I'm not sure it would still be a fanfic.
36° was about their connection & Seishiro's past as Sakurazukamori.
Family Matters is about how they continue & the past of their clans.
Additional plots would be (in no particular order):
  • Yue's story
  • Setsuka's story
  • Seishiro's life around the time of making the bet, between the making of the bet and its execution, until the beginning of X
  • what happened with Subaru's parents
  • and the continuation of Family Matters would tell how all that affects their present existence.
But I'm pretty far from the canon already and the distance would increase necessarily with the next part.
So far, 36° & FM are seen rather positively, but I wonder if I don't "overuse my stay" if I stray that far from the canon into original territory.

What do you think?

current chapter word count: 7280
reason for that: deleted Omi's House Visit of Hell & Meeting the Boss
because... they can be told nicely concise in chapter 17 and 18, without being the bloated, OC-laden monsters they were in 16!
amount of chapter considered done: 98% (including tinkering)
number of scenes to be written: 1 (Tree Talk 2)
number of scenes to be tinkered: 1 (2 if one counts Tree Talk 2)
number of scenes unfinished: 0 (!)
quote of the day: "Get in hand? They won't even listen to me!"

Regarding my earlier post: a lot of my frustration about the Decagram came from the fact that up until now I hadn't found a way to tell this crucial chapter without loading it with OC-focused scenes and I was very concerned that it would get worse, should I continue the plot arch. However, maybe the "I give up"-notion earlier finally freed my head for the necessary changes and I'm now confident to be able to continue the plot without turning it into an OC-fic with Sei/Sub being side-characters. Considering the publicly posted outcry earlier, I'd like to say something about the listed plots:
  1. I will write the Yue story at some point, because the matter - and his made-up vita - are very fascinating for me. This will not be a fanfic, however, because - probably aside from the Sakura - there will be no TBX-canon characters in it (and the Sakura can hardly be considered such a character in the first place!). At this point, I don't know if it will be beta ed, because OrigFic-betas are hard to come by. :)
  2. Setsuka's story (and Subaru's parents, though unrelated) will be necessarily revealed in the sequel, so there's no reason to make stories of their own out of them (maybe aside from the occasional short story, that is.)
  3. Seishiro's earlier life is already a sizey side-story at this point (working title: "Michiko"), albeit an unfinished one, which will likely be finished after FM and before I continue with the sequel. If it continues growing like it does, it might become one of the main stories of the Decagram, just from it's size.

And I'd like to thank [insanejournal.com profile] primera for her spontaneous, supportive reply to my previous post. I felt really depressed when I wrote it and her - and my dear editor's IM response - helped my get over the frustration. Thank you.

I hope to get chapter 16 ready for editing by next weekend. With us luck!
