akk: AKK - Schriftzug aus Blitzen (Default)
Two days ago I answered the unread book meme and today that tempts me to make my list of books that left a lasting impression on my imagination. Books that I (voluntarily) reread multiple times, or books I remember almost word for word without rereading them multiple times.
Books!
  • C.J. Cherryh The Dreaming Tree - formed forever my image of the Sidhe; Tolkien stood no chance after that one!

  • C.J. Cherryh Fortress in the Eye of Time (and its sequels) - beautiful!

  • C.J. Cherryh The Faded Sun Trilogy - how to develop (and tell) about a believable alien race

  • C.J. Cherryh Yeager - probably not her best book in the Downbelow Station universe, but it was the one that had me hooked!

  • Barry Eisler Rain Fall - the ultimate cool killer novel (and it plays in Tokyo!)

  • Christoph Hardebusch Sturmwelten - [translates as "Worlds of Storm"] fantasy & pirates, thrilling esp. in contrast to the silly (though enjoyable) Pirates of the Caribbean

  • Lynn Flewelling Luck in the Shadows - a gay sidhe spy and his unbeknownst half-sidhe side-kick in a medieval fantasy setting

  • Laurell K. Hamilton A Kiss of Shadows - one word: Doyle!

  • Markus Heitz Die Mächte des Feuers - [translates as "The Powers of Fire" and is a dark setting of a AU 1925 world in which dragons exist and rule. I pine for the lack of sequel right now!]

  • Hanns Kneifel Atlan novels - [no idea, if the books are among those Perry Rhodan universe plots that were translated into countless languages] my "first contact" with historical science fiction

  • Teresa Medeiros Nobody's Darling - probably the funniest schmaltzy novel (in a Wild West setting!) I ever read!

  • Naomi Novik Temeraire series - Hornblower'n Dragons, you got to love them! A lot less dark than Heitz' take on dragons, but still... :)

  • Jennifer Roberson Lady of the Forest - the ultimate Robin Hood novel.

  • Frank Schätzing Der Schwarm [The Swarm] - since reading the German original in the month it was published 2004, I keep noticing events happening in real life... like jellyfish closing down power stations.

  • Paullina Simons Die Liebenden von Leningrad [The Bronze Horseman] - I just say "characterizations"!

  • Maureen Tan AKA Jane and its sequel Run Jane Run - the ultimate spy novels

  • Matthew Thomas Before & After - who could forget a novel about Nostradamus, the end of the world, and exploding sheep?!

  • Ann Tonsor Zeddies Death Gift - there aren't enough science fiction books like this one!

The list is naturally incomplete, since I keep remembering books while I write it. It ends here just because I want to read one. Now!
